Trinity was organized in 1826 by The Right Rev. Philander Chase, the first Episcopal Bishop of Ohio. The original Trinity Church building was built in 1834, and was located on First Street near East Main. You can still see the white bell tower. In 1889, that building was sold to the English Lutheran Church (St. Paul’s) and Trinity purchased the lot where the church now stands. The current building was begun in 1890 and completed in 1892. There have been several renovations to the original structure and the attached education building was added in 1970.

The main worship area (pictured, top left) contains some of the most beautiful stained glass windows in the Diocese. The window directly above the altar is called “The Ascension,” and was made in the studio of Louis Tiffany. It was installed in Trinity in 1892. There are three other large stained glass windows depicting various stories of Jesus’ life. Two much smaller stained glass windows depict floral motifs which were common during the early 1900’s. Trinity Church also contains a small chapel (middle left) which is used every Sunday for the 8 a.m. Eucharist. It can also be used for small weddings, or just for private meditations. Christ Chapel was dedicated in 1947.

Twenty-four priests have served as Trinity’s Rector. The current rector, Fr. Steven E. Carroll, has been at Trinity since September 2005. He and his wife, Rosie, came to Newark from Michigan by way of Arizona. He graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI, and earned his Master’s of Divinity Degree from Trinity College, University of Toronto. His office door is always open and anyone is welcome to stop by, whether you have questions about the Episcopal Church, or just want to visit.

Our Choir is small but is always welcoming new voices. Our Organist and choirmaster is Mr. Wm. Terry Bagot. Please speak with him if you are interested in adding your voice to our group.

Trinity’s various ministries support projects within the city, Diocese and indeed, the world.
